Our story
Albuna Express started as a small farm of roughly 10 to 15 acres, with much of the work done by hand.
A small expansion came first, then a much larger one. Each phase was built as its own greenhouse, and together they bring the farm to 31 acres today.
Growth has meant more than more acres. The biggest change has been in how cucumbers are packed and shipped, with investment in equipment that takes the manual work out of the warehouse.
The farm
Every acre at Albuna Express grows English cucumbers, across three greenhouses built in three phases.
Phase one
A small farm of roughly 10 to 15 acres, where Albuna Express began.
Phase two
A small expansion, built as a second greenhouse.
Phase three
A large expansion, built as a third greenhouse, that brought the farm to 31 acres.
Packing and shipping
Packing used to be hands-on. Cucumbers were tipped onto the line by hand and crates were moved one at a time.
The new warehouse replaces that with a fully automated packing line and box machine, so cucumbers move from greenhouse to shipment with far less manual handling.
Once cucumbers reach the line, packing runs automatically.
Boxes are made up by machine rather than by hand.
No more tipping crates onto the line or moving them by hand.
